PROGRAMMING Classic ASP: 1996 - current Visual Basic (COM+ for IIS): 1999 - current PHP: 2009 - current
C# I took piano lessons, does that count?
HTML Started in 1993 for company website (I worked at a networking company). Currently taking XHTML/CSS at the SRJC to stay current.
WHY? I've avoided ASP.NET, because the 100,000+ lines of Classic ASP / VB-COM+ code I maintain work fine and fast. But our accounting system is upgrading to an ASP.NET version...
When I say the SRJC was offering a ASP.NET course, I decided it was time to commit!
I have nearly no programming experience other than messing with existing code. Imagine my ignorance - I just learned that C# isn't 'C pound'. John... I just found out where middle C is on the piano. I guess that won't really help me here either. I enjoyed the challenge while completing the CS 10 Intro to Programming course (C++) years ago.
I have plenty of experience on the front end with HTML and CSS. I've been involved since the early 1990's.
I am taking this class to begin my adventure to learn the back-end of websites. It's a whole different world, this programming stuff.
Well, I see that I posted my bio in the wrong thread. So, I'll just repeat it here.
I'm a software engineer mostly writing code for low level firmware applications in Assembly and C. I've learned some OO languages (Java, JavaScript and even some C#) but they never totally clicked for me. I like Assembly.
I finally received my Web Design certificate in December so I'm OK with HTML.
I'm taking this class as it's required for the JavaScript certificate.
Hi! I am an RPGLE programmer, specifically on IBM AS/400 midrange systems which I have programmed on for decades. I have programmed VB but would not consider myself an expert on it.
I have taken the VB, Java, PHP, Javascript, and HTML classes at the JC but have not programmed any production code on any of them.
I did take the HTML & the Javascript classes at the JC so I understand HTML code. I would not consider myself a pro on HTML though.
I am taking this class because some of the websites at work are written in the older ASP code & I would like to know more about it.
The book & chapters are painful. :( Too bad the font wasn't just slightly bigger but then the book would be 1500 pages thick. :p
I have programed in C and perl but I am not a regular programmer.
I have taken a couple html and css classes. I would like to learn more about web programing. In particular I would like to learn who to design web pages with dynamic content.
I took 1 C+ class about 8 years ago. I have taken a number of networking classes and other computer classes but not a lot with programming. I have recently taken some html and css classes and my goal is to keep improving my website.
My goal for this class is to have more dynamic forms and also have a login page so my clients can save there forms and come back to complete them.
Must admit these first two week have taken a little extra studying on my part but i will catch up and I am looking forward to it. I hope you don't mind if I ask a lot of questions.
I've taken most of the programming classes the JC has to offer: C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, and I use JavaScript and PHP at my day job.
I feel very comfortable with HTML/CSS and can generally bend them to do what I want.
I'm taking this class mainly because it's one of the last web programming technology classes that the JC offers that I haven't taken. While I'm intrigued by the possibility of writing compiled OO code for web applications since I really enjoyed Java, I do not, as of yet, think I will be using ASP for any actual production. It's completely foreign to what I have done up this point in web development: that is, HTML/CSS for presentation and JavaScript and PHP for functionality.
I've taken a few classes in various programming languages such as, C++, JavaScript, jQuery and PHP and AS3. This semester I am also taking Java.
After completing my Web Graphic Design Certificate in December, I am now working to complete both my JavaScript & PHP certificates this semester.
I have used HTML & CSS for about 5 years now and I am very comfortable with both.
Finally, I am taking this class to increase my skill set. Although as of yet, I am not completely proficient in most of the languages I have learned, I have enough of an understanding to be able to work through them all..The more I learn..the more I want to learn:)
I got started in computers in 1975. I went to college for a computer tech as degree.
The languages I first worked with were cobol, rpg, fortran, and assemble. Those first few years I did programming with punch cards.
In 1986 I took classes to learn Unix and C language. That payed off as my company did a conversion to a unix environment and got can "Order Entry System, Inventory Control." The company also aquired the source code and over the years we customize the system.
In 1995 I left there and did contract work, worked for myself as a computer tech.
I now back in college to upgrade my skills as I work for a certificate "Web Development with ASP.NET". I've also taken the 3 class for html & css.
I been also doing some volunteer work helping the non_profits with there Web Sites.
I'm looking forward to doing some good thing in the future with my new training.
My name is Brian Tietz and I'm a recent Sonoma State Computer Science graduate.
Around the same time I graduated I was lucky enough to find a local job in Santa Rosa area working for a web design firm as a web programmer.
Most of the work is in ASP.net, C# and VB.net. Although from time to time classic ASP and even PHP is used.
I've mingled with HTML since '99 and I'm taking this class to complete both the SRJC ASP.net Programmer certificate and also to help study for the Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist (exam 70-515) certification test in ASP.net Web Development.
I have high hopes that the SRJC will continue to offer top notch classes in .Net along with IT related (MS-SQL, Server, etc.)
I have been programing for about 14 years. VB is were I Started programing then moved on to C# and C++. HTML I am fimiler with but rusty I still need to look up some of the tags once in a wile. This class looked interesting to me so I decided to try it out.
I've been programing for less than one year now. All I have done is VB, and C# is a new language to me. I'm taking an HTML class this semester, and I would say I have little or no knowledge of HTML. I was always interested in web design and programming, therefore I'm taking this class.

ReplyDeleteThanks John. You can probably help teach the html and general web application parts of this class. I can help with the C#...
